The Ocean

Simceladus is not a direct replica of Enceladus. It borrows the moon’s darkness, ocean, tidal rhythm and chemical possibilities to make an artificial-life habitat that can be watched at human speed.

Where the food begins

Vents release heat and reductant from the floor. A separate reactant arrives through the open ocean. Living film grows where those paths overlap on exposed rock. Every animal depends on that film, directly or through another body.

What the tide changes

The tide changes vent output and the strength of the current. That moves chemical trails, suspended material and animals through different parts of the habitat. The numbers above are imported from the world environment used by the simulation.
